We are conducting a wide range fields, such as otology, rhinology, and head and neck surgery.

Current Research Topics

Eosinophilic otitis media (EOM)

EOM is a type of otitis media in which a large number of eosinophils infiltrate the middle ear effusion, and is known to cause hearing loss in a high percentage of patients. We are conducting clinical research on the epidemiology of EOM and the development of treatment methods. Moreover, we are studying the pathogenesis of EOM using our own animal models.

Aging and Otolaryngological disturbance

In recent years, it has become clear that hearing loss and dementia are related. We are participating in the Iwaki Health Promotion Project to study the relationship between cognitive function and aging of the sensory systems such as hearing, balance, taste, and smell. We are also testing for genes related to hearing loss.

Allergic rhinitis

We are conducting epidemiological surveys on allergic rhinitis and cedar pollen dispersal surveys. As for the number of cedar pollen dispersal, we are working with the Aomori Pollen Information Study Groupe to publish forecasts of cedar pollen dispersal in Aomori Prefecture on the Internet. We are also conducting research on relation between intestinal bacteria and allergen sensitization.
