Division of Clinical Neuropathology:

Our research activities are generally based on morphological observation of central and peripheral nervous systems of patients suffering from various neurological diseases. The main topics of our current researches are as follows:

  • (1) Autopsy study of neurological diseases
  • (2) Pathomechanisms of neurodegenerative proteinopathies
  • (3) Pathological analysis of genetically-modulated animals

During the course of the research, the students learn the numerous skills for pathological analysis, including the gross examination, light and electron microscopic observation, immunohistochemistry and morphometry. We pay particular attention on the teaching of clinico-pathological correlation.

Division of Molecular Neuropathology:

In the molecular neuropathology laboratory, we are currently focusing to determine the molecular mechanism of neuronal death and inclusion body formation in neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.
Doctor course students in our laboratory are expected to learn a series of techniques, including cell culture, DNA/RNA isolation, protein purification, cloning, RT-PCR, promoter assay, southern, northern and western blot analysis, and transfection.
