Our research focuses on clarifying cell functions and the development of new medical applications based on sugar chain structure of proteoglycan. We use glycotechnology and glycobiology to analyze the saccharide chains of proteoglycans (glycosaminoglycan chains) found in living beings. Specifically, we are working on the development of glycome technology for proteoglycans, construction of glycosaminoglycan oligosaccharide chain library, reconstruction of proteoglycan, and analysis of relationships between structures and biological functions of proteoglycans. We provide instruction in: structural analysis of saccharide chains, enzymatic reconstruction of proteoglycan saccharide chains, cell culture, binding assay, biosensor use, and biological analysis of cell functions.
