History

1-Apr-1944 Aomori Medical School was established
10-Mar-1947 Aomori Medical School moved to Hirosaki city
10-Feb-1948 Hirosaki Medical College was established
31-May-1949 Aomori Medical School and Hirosaki Medical College were incorporated in accordance with the National School Establishment Law．
31-May-1951 Aomori Medical School was closed.
1-Apr-1951 The School of Medicine was opened.
10 basic science departments: Anatomy I, Anatomy II, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology I, Pathology II, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Hygieiology, Forensic Medicine.
12 clinical science departments: Internal Medicine I, Internal Medicine II, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery I, Surgery II, Orthopedics, Dermatology & Urology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Radiology
1-Apr-1953 The Department of Physiology was Separated into Physiology I and Physiology II. (11 basic science departments）
1-Apr-1955 Educational Courses began.
1-Apr-1958 The Graduate School of Medicine was established.
The Department of Public Health was established. (12 basic cience departments)
The Department of Psychiatry was renamed Neuropsychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology were renamed Obstetrics and Gynecology.
31-Mar-1960 Hirosaki Medical College was closed.
10-Oct-1962 The Department of Dermatology & Urology was separated into the Department of Dermatology and the Department of Urology. （13 clinical science departments）
1-Apr-1965 The Department of Anesthesiology was established. （14 clinical science departments）
The Stroke Research Facility was established. （The Etiology section)
1-Apr-1966 The Department of Parasitology was established. (13 basic science departments）
1-Apr-1967 A Section of Pathophysiology was established in the Stroke Research Facility. (2 sections）
1-Apr-1970 The Department of Internal Medicine III was established. (15 clinical science departments）
1-May-1972 The Department of Biochemistry was separated into Biochemistry I and Biochemistry II. (14 basic science departments）
The Department of Neuro Surgery was established. (16 clinical science departments)
1-Apr-1977 The Section of Rehabilitation was established in the Stroke Research Facility. (3 sections)
1-Apr-1979 The Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery was established. (17 clinical science departments)
1-Apr-1982 The Section of Neurology was established in the Stroke Research Facility. (4 sections)
21-May-1987 The Department of Clinical Laboratory was established. (18 clinical science departments）
8-Apr-1988 Faculty Affairs and University Hospital Affairs were unified into Faculty Affairs.
29-May-1989 A Cranial Nerve Disease Research Facility was established. (Neuropathology section, Pathophysiology section, Rehabilitation section, Clinical Neurology and Gene Technology section) (The Stroke Research Facility was reorganized))
1-Apr-1995 The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was established. (19 clinical science departments）
5-Mar-1996 Medical School Communication Center was donated.
1-Apr-1997 The Department of Gerontology was established. (20 clinicals science departments）
1-Apr-1999 The Department of Clinical Pharmacology was established. (21 clinical science departments）
Institute of Brain Science was established. (Molecular Pathophysiology section, Cerebrovascular Pathophysiology section, Functional Recovery section, Neuropathic section, Cellular Engineering section) (Cranial Nerve Disease Research Facility was abolished.)
1-Apr-2003 The Department of Emergency was established. (22 clinical science departments）
1-Apr-2004 National University Corporation Hirosaki University School of Medicine was established in accordance with the National School Establishment Law.
Graduate School of Medicine revised from five majors (Physiology, Pathology, Social Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery) to one major (Medicine).
31-May-2005 The Cellular Engineering Section in the Affiliated Institute of Brain Science was abolished.
1-Apr-2005 The Department of Hygiene and Public Health were combined into the Department of Social Medicine. (13 basic science departments)
Center for Advanced Medical Research was established.
The Graduate School of Medicine was reorganized into the Graduate School of Medicine. (Medical Science and Health Sciences)
Reorganization of the Faculty of Medicine into the Faculty of Medicine (Medical Affairs General Affairs Group/ Medical Science Affairs Group/Health Department Group) and the Hospital Administration Office (General Affairs Section/Administration Section/Medical Affairs Section/ Business Planning Office)
1-Oct-2006 The Department of Microbiology and Parasitology were combined into the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. (12 basic science departments)
1-Feb-2007 The Department of Medical Oncology was established. (23 clinical science departments)

The Department of Stress Response Science and the Department of Glycotechnology at the Center for Advanced Medical Research in the Graduate School of Medicine. (2 departments）
The Faculty of Medicine was reorganized into the Graduate School of Medicine (Graduate School of Medicine General Affairs Group/Medical Research Science Affairs Group) and the Graduate Science Affairs (Graduate School of Health Sciences General Affairs Group/Health Science Research Science Affairs Group).
18-May-2009 The Department of Clinical Pharmacology in the Graduate School of Medicine was abolished.
1-May-2010 The Department of Anatomic Pathology was established at the Graduate School of Medicine. (36 departments)
1-Jun-2010 The Department of General Medicine was renamed the Department of General Medical Education. (36 departments)
1-Apr-2014 A Department with a Research Center for Child Mental Development was established at the Graduate School of Medicine.
1-Dec-2014 The Department of Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine and Nephrology was reorganized as the Department of Cardiology and Nephrology, and the Department of Respiratory Medicine was established at the Graduate School of Medicine.
The Department of Integrated Medical Education was reorganized and the Department of General Medicine was established at the Graduate School of Medicine.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine was established at the Graduate School of Medicine. (38 departments)
1-Apr-2018 The Department of Radiology and Radiation Oncology was Reorganized, and the Department of Radiation Oncology was established at the Graduate School of Medicine.
The Department of Radiology and the Department of Transfusion and Cell Therapy Medicine were established at the Graduate School of Medicine. (40 departments)
1-Feb-2020 The Department of Patient Safety was established in the Graduate School of Medicine. (41 departments)
