Research Aims

Basic pathology
To develop new treatments of diseases, we investigate the cause and pathology of diseases by means of morphology, histopathogy and molecular biology.
Surgical pathology
With multifaceted inspection of the pathological specimens, we will apply molecular analyses for pathological diagnosis with updated information. Also, we will identify the causative factors of diseases and contribute to the cutting-edge medical treatment.

Current Research Topics

Pathology of endocrine and metabolic disorders
Our aims are to discover mechanism and treatment of aging-related diseases, diabetes mellitus and their complications. Because of chronicity of these disorders, proper transgenic animals are used to target the cause of molecular mechanisms and to establish the human models of the diseases.
Oncologic pathology
To elucidate the relationship of histology with the epigenetic changes, tumor differentiation, potential of metastasis and invasion, the expression of the oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, cell adhesion molecules and stromal invasion factors are investigated on human tumor samples and cell lines.
Pathology of digestive diseases
Pathology of the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract are studied with human derived samples to gain information for differential diagnosis, mechanisms of diseases and direction of treatment.
Hematopathology
Molecular defects of leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma and malignant lymphoma are sought to discover the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment. The major modality of the research is molecular analysis of human tumor tissues.
