The Department of Disaster and Critical Care Medicine was established in 2004. We teach emergency and disaster medicine, provide emergency medicine at the advanced emergency medical center at our university hospital (including intensive care for serious patients with COVID-19), and conduct research on the emergency medical system in the area, disaster medical system, and emergency radiation exposure medicine in Aomori Prefecture. We are also registered as Japan Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and provide disaster medical assistance at the time of disaster.

Current Research Topics

At present, our department is conducting research on the following topics.

  • 1) Regional emergency system in the rural area.
  • 2) Prevention strategy for area specific injury related to apple farming.
  • 3) Auto writing system of chronology for disaster recording.
  • 4) Establishment of an emergency radiation exposure medical system in the area.
  • 5) Clinical evaluation of biological dosimetry.
