Introduction

The Medical Ethics Course was established in April 2020 to address the increasingly complex ethical issues of medicine and medical research. This course also serves as the secretariat of the Ethics Committee of Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine, and mainly deals with ethical issues in medical research.

Current Research Topics

The Ethics Committee, where we operate as the secretariat, conducts ethical reviews on human subject medical research for excluding clinical trials and specified clinical research. Not only the Graduate School of Medicine and the University Hospital, but also other faculties of Hirosaki University and medical institutions in Aomori prefecture may request examinations, and about 400 studies are evaluated annually. The environment surrounding clinical research is changing rapidly, such as the increase in research involving genetic analysis, and the ethical guidelines have been revised accordingly. We provide timely information on changes in these guidelines, and strive to create an environment in which clinical research can be carried out smoothly and safely, such as by making ethical review applications online.
