Welcome to the Department of Anatomic Pathology at Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine. The Deparment was established in 2010 as one of the clinical departments at Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine, and has been conducting all kinds of pathological diagnosis such as biopsies, operation materials, autopsy, frozen sections, cytology specimens, in the Department of Pathology at the Hirosaki University Hospital. In surgical pathology, we features the cooperation with the other Basic Research Pathology Departments to take advantage of subspecialties of all pathologists at Hirosaki University for providing precise and appropriate diagnoses. Research laboratory of the Department provides Ph. D. programs in experimental pathology including studies of cell proliferation, cell-cycle regulation and apoptosis, DNA damage and carcinogenesis by means of modern techniques and cytometry. The department also offers flexible four to more year training programs covering a variety of subspecialties leading to the board certification in anatomic pathology and cytopathology in Japan. These programs are individually tailored to be suitable for those individuals interested in an academic career in pathology, in the subspecialty practice of pathology or in the practice of modern general pathology, which will allow the residents to develop into competent, independent and knowledgeable pathologists who will be life-long learners, effective teachers, successful laboratory managers and active members of the multidisciplinary patient care team. The residents are encouraged to present their experiences at appropriate national meetings and participate in numerous teaching conferences concerning anatomic or experimental pathology. The residents also have opportunities to study at affiliates in Japan for cultivating more universal perspective.
