We aim to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms of various diseases and cognitive decline caused by functional abnormalities of ion channels present in nerves. We generated genetically engineered animals and experimental model animals with functional mutations in the genes responsible for these diseases and analyzed the functional mutations at the cellular and individual levels. We also aim to develop therapeutic methods and drugs to treat these diseases.
Projects
- ・Exploring Novel Proteins Regulating GABA-A Receptor Trafficking
- ・Development of novel anesthetics via GABA-A receptor trafficking
- ・Elucidation of the mechanism of improvement of cognitive function by exercise-derived molecules
- ・Development of novel therapeutic agents for essential tremor (joint research with pharmaceutical companies)
Methods
- ・Electrophysiological analysis using brain slices and cultured cells
- ・Assessment of emotional and cognitive functioning through behavioral analysis (e.g., motor skills, memory/learning, social skills)
- ・Analysis of morphological and functional plastic changes in the spine
- ・Biochemical and molecular biological analysis (including transcriptome analysis)
