Ion channels in plasma membrane of neuron play an important role in transmission within neuronal network. Dysfunction of ion channels causes several pathological conditions such as seizure activity and behavioral abnormalities. The goal of work in my lab is to determine how ion channel abnormalities cause dysfunction of neuronal transmission, and then result in behavioral abnormalities. This research is performed using electrophysiological analysis, imaging technique, microarray, and behavioral approaches.
We focus on trafficking of GABA-A receptor, role of GABA-A receptor in anxiety disorder, association between spine morphology (Frontiers in Neuroscience 11, p206; 2017) and disease onset(Pharmcol Res & Perspectives 5, p1; 2017), function of GABA-A receptor in anesthesia(J Pharmacol Exp Ther 361, p367;2017), and synaptic response in autism model mouse. To examine our interests, Fmr1 KO (Fragile X syndrome model) mice exhibiting autism spectrum disorders, PRIP-1 KO mice (J Pharmacol Exp Ther 340; 2012, Mol Pain 9:23. doi: 10.1186/1744-8069-9-23, 2013 May 2), which showed perturbed GABA-A receptor trafficking, and several experimental animal models are utilized.
