Introduction

We daily intake food including natural biopolymer products derived from animals and plants. Most of these products are possibly possess physiological activities. From another point of view, we used to take advantage of their grace. Recent studies have been demonstrating that our microbiota including intestinal microbiological flora is involved in maintenance of systemic homeostasis and that dysbiosis is possibly an etiological factor to cause systemic and local diseases such as gastrointestinal diseases and psychiatric disorders. We assume that orally ingested natural biopolymer products can modify intestinal microbiota. We have been studying on biologically active biopolymer products and elucidation of their mechanisms.

Current Research Topics

  1. Analysis of immunomodulatory actions of natural biopolymer products derived from animals and plants
  2. Search of novel functions of natural biopolymer products derived from animals and plants
  3. Modification of microbiota by natural biopolymers
  4. Analysis of crosstalk between microbiota and local/systemic inflammation
  5. Immunomodulatory effects of natural biopolymer products by percutaneous and mucosal administration and analysis of their mechanisms
