Outline

We have 2 groups for patient care and research: Cardiology, and Nephrology. To clarify the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases and renal diseases and to create new diagnostic procedures and therapies, 2 groups are performing together the following research projects. Each group also has each specific education program to generate an excellent physician scientist.

A. Cardiology

Research projects

  • 1. Clinical and experimental studies on atherosclerosis
  • 2. Investigation for pathogenesis of coronary artery spasm
  • 3. Experimental study on the pathogenesis of the hypertensive cardiovascular diseases
  • 4. Clinical and experimental studies on remote monitoring system using implant device in patients with heart diseases
  • 5. Clinical and experimental studies on the pathogenesis of congestive heart failure
  • 6. Clinical and experimental studies on the pathogenesis of supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias and atrial fibrillation
  • 7. Clinical studies on the effect of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
  • 8. Imaging studies on the coronary plaque lesion in patients with ischemic heart diseases

Education program

  • 1. Clinical and experimental procedures to achieve the clarification of pathogenesis, upgrade of diagnostic methods, and development of new therapy for cardiovascular diseases
  • 2. Molecular biological procedures such as generation of transgenic mouse
  • 3. Molecular and biochemical experiments such as PCR and Western blotting and so on
  • 4. Clinical procedures for cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology

B. Nephrology

Research projects

  • 1. Study on generation of extracellular matrix and chemokine in human cultured mesangial cells, proximal tubular epithelial cells, and podocyte cells
  • 2. Clinical study on metabolism of lipid and fatty acids in kidney diseases
  • 3. Study on the effect of n-3 fatty acids on experimental nephritis

Education program

  • 1. Procedure of cell culture, measurement of extracellular matrix-regulating factors and chemokines, and understanding the pathogenesis of kidney disease
  • 2. Procedure of measurement of lipid and fatty acids in the plasma of the kidney disease patients, and investigation of their involvement in the pathogenesis
  • 3. Investigation of n-3 fatty acids as a novel therapeutic strategy using experimental nephritis
