Introduction
For over 70 years, our department has trained more than 200 excellent dermatologists. We are deeply rooted in the community, providing essential medical care throughout Aomori Prefecture and neighboring regions. At the same time, it actively contributes to the global dermatological community through outstanding research, which has earned international recognition. We are also fully committed to teaching both medical and graduate students. Currently, our department is home to more than 20 dedicated members. Each one brings a strong sense of purpose and passion to both clinical and research work.
Research projects
- 1) We perform genetic testing of inherited skin diseases, including epidermolysis bullosa, palmoplantar keratoderma, acrodermatitis enteropathica, porphyrias, etc, collaborating with many other institutes in Japan and foreign countries.
- 2) We generated BP230 conditional knockout mice, where the knockout of BP230 is restricted to epidermal cells. BP230 conditional knockout mice were immunized with recombinant BP230, and the splenocytes were injected into Rag2-/- immunodeficient mice intravenously. The recipient mice presented with the phenotype of bullous pemphigoid such as subepidermal blistering. We analyze the pathomechanisms of bullous pemphigoid using this model mice.
- 3) GLUT1 is upregulated in various malignant tumors, which facilitates cellular glucose uptake and boosts rapid tumor growth and progression. We analyze whether increased GLUT1 expression enhances tumor aggressiveness and if it can predict the prognosis in malignant skin tumors.
